Once I had my first singing (voice) student, I needed supplies. I headed to a music retail store nearby. I had a great conversation with two women working there. I described to them what I was looking for and why. Unbeknownst to me, one of the women was the owner. We ended up discussing music education and teaching pedagogy (i.e. how to teach).
Before I left the store that day, the owner offered me a contract. She asked me to work for her 2 afternoons/evenings a week, teaching voice and piano lessons in the music studio portion of her business. I accepted the contract, but only for 1 afternoon/evening a week. By the end of October 2014, I not only had a student in my own studio, but I had landed a teaching contract without even trying. I was stunned and didn't have a clue where I was going! If you enjoyed this article, let me know. Post a comment! Like it! Tweet it! You may also want to read another article in this series:
