Eden-Smith Music was established over 4 years ago to teach singing (a.k.a. voice), piano, keyboarding, & music theory to musicians of all ages in Calgary NW, Alberta. Sharon Eden-Smith, B. Sc., B. Ed., has her credentials through the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She was employed, as a teacher, with the Calgary Catholic School Board for 12 years & holds a Permanent Professional Teaching Certificate in the Province of Alberta. Her teaching experience also includes a non-traditional classroom setting as a summer camp instructor for the Calgary Zoo. Her experience as an educator & her certification allows her to seamlessly incorporate effective classroom techniques into her private musical instruction, while accounting for different learning styles (i.e. auditory, visual, kinesthetic) & learning needs (e.g. gifted, ADD, ADHD, LD, Dyslexia, Downs Syndrome, etc.). Sharon works with her students & parents to establish short & long term attainable goals to build confidence. 

The Goal

To provide a safe & secure environment for music mastery for beginning & intermediate singing (voice), piano, keyboard, & music theory students, regardless of age, learning style & cognitive ability!​

Singing (Voice), Acoustic Piano, Electronic Piano Keyboard, & Music Theory Lessons Available in Calgary Northwest (NW)

Eden-Smith Music is a student centered, performance based music studio in Hawkwood in the Calgary Northwest (NW), Alberta, offering singing (voice), piano, keyboard, & theory lessons for beginner through intermediate music students of all ages (children & teenagers through adults & seniors). This home studio specializes in an integrated approach to teaching music. Performance skills are infused with theory, sight reading, ear training, aural skills, etc., to minimize book work & maximize confidence building through practical experience.

​Students can take private music lessons purely for enjoyment (i.e. leisure) or they can work towards achieving levels through nationally & internationally recognized curricula, such as the curriculum of the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM), Toronto, Ontario, Canada, or the Canadian Conservatory, London, Ontario, Canada.

Eden-Smith Music offers weekly, biweekly & flexible scheduled lessons.

Singing (Voice) Lessons

Private singing (voice) lessons are taught to beginner & intermediate singers to get them singing as soon as possible! Students can choose a song from any type of music & period of time. Body Posture, breath control, & proper head positioning are emphasized to minimize unnecessary movement, while maximizing energy flow & energy use to improve focus.

The skills taught to beginners is continued within the instruction for intermediate singers. Knowledge of musical genres, genre development through time, & the contributions of composers & performing artists are seamlessly incorporated into this instruction. These essential skills aid students in their musical interpretation of a piece. That allows them to successfully develop their own style, while staying true to the spirit of the piece.

​Piano Lessons

Private piano lessons are taught to beginner & intermediate pianists to get them playing immediately! Body posture, hand shape & positioning, finger movement, foot & leg positioning, & breathing are emphasized to minimize unnecessary movement, while maximizing energy flow & energy use to improve focus.

The skills taught to beginners is continued within the instruction for intermediate pianists. Knowledge of musical genres, genre development through time, & the contributions of composers & performing artists are seamlessly incorporated into this instruction. These essential skills aid students in their musical interpretation of a piece, allowing them to successfully develop their own style, while staying true to the spirit of the piece.

Electronic keyboarding lessons are taught, privately, to beginning keyboard students to get them playing immediately & using the rebust accompaniment options available through the electonic keyboard! Posture, hand shape & positioning, finger movement, & breathing are emphasized to minimize unnecessary movement, thereby maximizing energy flow & energy use to improve focus.

​The skills taught to beginners is continued within the instruction for intermediate keyboardists. Knowledge of musical genres, genre development through time, & the contributions of composers & performing artists are seamlessly incorporated into this instruction. These essential skills aid students in their musical interpretation of a piece. That allows them to successfully develop their own style, while using the built-in accompaniments.

​Music Theory Lessons
in Calgary Northwest (NW)

Music theory is the study of notational conventions, melody line, composition, analysis, guided listening of selected works, music history, etc. Theory instruction is available as private lessons. This instruction can augment the theory that a student is already learning within the practical singing, piano or keyboard lessons at Eden-Smith Music. Alternately, a music student can take only theory lessons, if desired.

​Many teaching strategies (e.g. games, flashcards, use of the 5 senses, use of whiteboards, memory tricks, student incentives, etc.) are employed to ensure that all learning styles (i.e. auditory, visual, kinesthetic) are addressed.
