Elementary & Junior High "In School Programs" Available for Teachers in Calgary AreaEden-Smith Music offers custom built, "In School Programs", to meet the needs of music teachers within elementary & junior high schools, in the Calgary area. Because Sharon Eden-Smith holds a Permanent Professional Teaching Certificate in the Province of Alberta & has years of classroom experience, she is able to create programs that weave around & through existing classroom instruction. These programs address the requirements of the Alberta curriculum and/or augment existing curricular requirements. All programs are designed to help teachers with the musical development of the children within these age groups that are in their care.
The "In School Program" can be designed to help students gain practical experience in musicianship & performance and/or to address theory requirements. Thus, issues such as body posture, breath control, & proper head positioning when singing, playing an instrument, or performing can be addressed. As well, theory areas, such as notational conventions, melody line, composition, analysis, guided listening of selected works, music history, etc., can be worked on. Many teaching strategies (e.g. games, flashcards, use of the 5 senses, use of whiteboards, memory tricks, student incentives, etc.) are employed to ensure that all learning styles (i.e. auditory, visual, kinesthetic) are taken into account. These strategies increase the potential for short & long term memory recall by connecting learned concepts into prior knowledge. They also provide ways to develop & engage higher thinking skills within the brain. Higher thinking allows for the problem solving abilities necessary for musicianship, performance skills, and musical analysis & synthesis.
